Troubleshooting

Equipment connection basic order

  • 01 Connect the power cable to the equipment
  • 02 Connect the equipment and laptop with a USB cable
  • 03 Turn on the equipment
  • 04 Run the AIS2100 software

Connection error

Situation: The indenter is in contact with the test surface.

    Check list
  • Check the connection order
  • Check the connection of the power cable and USB cable
  • Check the power switch
    Troubleshooting
  • Turn off the equipment
  • Disconnect the power cable and USB cable
  • Close the AIS2100 software
  • Reconnect according to basic order

Power outage

Situation: The indenter is in contact with the test surface. The equipment is not working.

    Troubleshooting
  • Turn off the equipment during a power outage
  • Wait until electricity is back on
  • Turn on the equipment
  • Move up the indenter module using UP button
  • Move to the next testing position
  • Perform three preliminary tests to check the condition of the equipment.

Abnormal curve

Situation: Abnormal curves occurred during the test.

    Check list
  • Stop the test and save the testing data (data is saved automatically)
  • Move to next test position and re-test
  • Check if the abnormal curve occurs again
    Troubleshooting
  • Move up more the indenter module
  • Close the AIS2100 software
  • Dis-assembly everything (cable, equipment and attachment)
  • Re-assembly everything
  • Test again 2 or 3 times
  • Check if the abnormal curve occurs again
  • If the abnormal curve continues to occur, contact FRONTICS with the curve

Troubleshooting (Abnormal curve)

Abnormal curve

SC 3-1 : Poor assembly

Troubleshooting

Check the bolts of the head unit and dovetail slider
SC 6 : Poor assembly

Troubleshooting

Check whether the dovetail slider is completely out of contact with the sample.

Abnormal curve

SC 13 : External shock

Troubleshooting

Avoid shock or vibration on equipment during test
SCP 131 : External shock

Abnormal curve

SC 15 : Poor fixation of indenter

Cause

The indenter is not tightly in contact with indenter axis after replacing indenter.

Troubleshooting

Put the indenter in full contact with the indenter shaft and do a preliminary test at least 3 times.
SC 17 : Elastic deformation of sample

Troubleshooting

Contact the bottom of the sample completely to the stage or attachment

Abnormal curve

SC 26 : Repeat test at the same position

Troubleshooting

Stop the test and move to next position and test again
SC 6 : Engage error

Cause

Engage is completed without contacting the indenter due to external vibration

Troubleshooting

Move to next position and test again

Useful Tip

Chain system

For the chain application, release main hook knob to fully open position when connecting chains from each bracket. This allows chains to be hooked to the main hook with balance without holding with hands.

Note: It is a good practice to mount main hook to the chain application from the bottom of the test pipe for better test result, however, main hook can also be mounted at any angle. (depending upon test target availability at the jobsite)

Releasing locked clamp lever

Sometimes clamp lever gets stuck into a position where you can’t move it to unlock. Simply raise up handle and release and clamp lever will adjust itself to correct position.

Indenter Number

Spherical indenters come with a unique number assigned to them. Each indenter with a number has its information such as radius programed to database for accurate analysis. Hence, Indenter’s unique number must enter the test condition prior to test.

Control using LCD panel

Out in the jobsite, before indentation test, you can use LCD panel from the top of the main unit to move indenter up and down. This will prevent hitting the target area with indenter before engage flow. Choose “Weight” or “Length” from the menu to move indenter.
